Response to Pastor Jack Graham's Attempt to Repeal Plano, Texas LGBT protection ordinance

December 23, 2014 - It was announced last week that the Senior Pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church has chosen to be a key leader in seeking to repeal the LGBT Protection Ordinance recently passed by the Plano, City Council.

Not only is this a despicable and vile attack specifically targeting the rights and protections of minorities - it is a clear violation of the Equal Protection Clause guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. Flyers are being circulated claiming that "Christianity has been criminalized." They also are demonizing LGBT people and this is poised to be dangerous to the public safety of LGBT people in Plano and in surrounding cities. Inciting this kind of demonetization not only fuels the fires of hate, It puts the lives of people at risk for hate speech and hate crimes. Actions will be taken to counteract this announcement.

For too long in the State of Texas this hate has been deemed "free speech" by religious majorities. Plain and simple, this is bigotry engineered by the very people who claim to serve a call to "Love one another." Pastor Graham's gross abuse of the gospel is not only clear in his approval of producing a  "Mega-Circus" of a Church - it is now clear in his actions that he hates LGBT people so much, he is willing to repeal our rights.

I am calling on the Mayor of Plano, the Plano City Council and Dallas elected officials to condemn this bigotry. The same bigotry that has been used in recent history against African Americans, Latinos, Women and Jews. All forms of this hate were "justified" by Biblical Scripture.

This must stop. The City of Plano is better than the fear mongering of Pastor Graham who referenced recently that gays were "darkness."
