Meadville City Council considers non-discrimination ordinance

MEADVILLE, Pa. June 18—Meadville City Council decided 3-2 to research and review a proposed nondiscrimination ordinance for that city.

At present, Meadville does not have an ordinance against discrimination in housing, employment, or public accommodations.

The proposed Meadville ordinance would provide protections on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, sex, religion, ancestry, genetic information, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, familial status, marital status, age, mental or physical disability, use of guide or support animals and/or mechanical aids

Some social conservatives have aggressively organized against the proposed ordinance because of the (continued on page 3) inclusion of sexual orientation as a protected category.

The June 18 meeting drew a couple hundred people.
