Local Organization Adopts New Name
With a new vision and a new direction, Erie Gay Pride, Inc. now has a new name – Greater Erie Alliance for Equality (GEAE).
Originally incorporated in 2006 GEAE is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the region's LGBT community and its straight allies through education, open dialogue and public visibility. As the organization evolved, the Board of Directors realized that the group needed to broaden its mission and its role in the community. To that end, this summer the Board voted to reincorporate Erie Gay Pride, Inc. under a new name – Greater Erie Alliance for Equality, Inc.
GEAE held a highly successful fundraising reception in July. In conjunction with Equality PA, the statewide LGBT advocacy organization, GEAE sponsored "An Afternoon for Equality" at 21 la rue dix in Erie to enhance awareness of the missions and goals of both organizations. Ted Martin, Executive Director of Equality PA, and Brian Sims, LGBT Athletes and Allies, and then Board President, Equality PA, were in attendance, as were more than 100 guests including Erie County Executive Barry Grossman.
The organization has expanded its Board, and also has a new logo and a new website: www.greatereriealliance.com. Additional programming is being planned for the fall and beyond, and information will be posted on the website. You may also contact GEAE at GEAEinfo@gmail.com or call its toll-free phone number, 1-866-229-1974.
