Breaking Glass Embraces Heartstone

Tender Icelandic Drama is out now on DVD & VOD

Philadelphia, PA, September 13, 2017--Breaking Glass Pictures is proud to announce the North American release of writer-director Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson's visually stunning, coming-of-age drama HEARTSTONE. Breaking Glass acquired rights to the film during the Berlin International Film Festival in a deal negotiated between Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Gabor Greiner of Films Boutique.

Described as a "well-acted, visually atmospheric debut" (The Hollywood Reporter) that "maps the subtle, even subconscious, strain" (Variety) of blossoming adulthood, HEARTSTONE premiered at the Venice Film Festival where it received the "Queer Lion" award.

HEARTSTONE held its US premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival where it won the Q Hugo award, and went on to play numerous festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, and Goteborg where it received the "Lorens" Award.

In a remote fishing village in Iceland. teenage boys Thor and Christian experience a turbulent summer as one tries to win the heart of a girl while the other discovers new feelings toward his best friend. When summer ends and the harsh nature of Iceland takes back its rights, it's time to leave the playground and face adulthood.

"This richly atmospheric and tender study of a beautiful friendship set in the amazing landscape of rural Iceland will find a wide fan base among US moviegoers", said Gabor Greiner, Head of Acquisitions at Film Boutique. "Guðmundur's award-winning debut feature has found the perfect home with our friends at Breaking Glass."

"Director Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson's debut feature Heartstone is a stunning film about the sexual awakening of two teenage boys, and the incredibly beautiful, yet harsh conditions of Iceland provide a magnificent setting for this very moving coming-of-age tale.", said Richard Ross, Co-President at Breaking Glass. "One has fallen for a local girl, while the other realizes that he has fallen in love with his best friend."
