December 29, 2016, Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Art Museum
is pleased to present a new Bacon Gallery exhibition, Earth Stories.
The show will run from January 20, 2017 through June 11, 2017. Earth Stories,
a traveling textile exhibit juried by quilt historian Dr. Carolyn L. Mazloomi and curated by Leni Levenson Wiener of Studio Art Quilt Associates. Earth Stories
showcases work from 24 contemporary international fiber artists, each inspired by issues of environmental concern. Employing a variety of techniques including painting, dyeing, drawing, photo transfer, patchwork, collage, and appliqué into compositions that range from abstract to figurative to graphic, these artists stitch stories of social, economic, and geopolitical significance. This exhibit celebrates stories of people and projects working to protect and restore natural lands and endangered species, increase sustainability through new approaches to agriculture and energy consumption, and otherwise improve the planet we live in.
