Large-Scale Survey Reveals Deep Disparities Between Transgender People And General Population
WASHINGTON, Dec. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) released the largest survey of transgender people ever conducted. The findings reveal significant disparities between transgender people and the rest of the U.S. population across a range of categories. The 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey (USTS) examined the experiences of transgender people across the United States, with 27,715 respondents from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and U.S. military bases overseas. NCTE and Legal Groups Inform NC School Districts of Obligations Under Federal Law
On Friday, the National Center for Transgender Equality, along with allied organizations, sent a letter to the head of every school district in North Carolina detailing school officials' obligations to transgender students and employees under federal laws that conflict with House Bill 2, which was signed into law on March 23. The letter makes clear that violating federal law could have serious legal and financial consequences for public schools and school districts. The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, the national American Civil Liberties Union, GLBTQ Advocates and Defenders, Lambda Legal, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and the Transgender Law Center also signed on to the letter.

Washington, DC - August 3, 2015 - Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced proposed rules to implement the non-discrimination provision of the Affordable Care Act, Section 1557. The law prohibits discrimination in many health facilities and insurance plans based on race, national origin, age, disability, and sex--including bias based on gender identity. These rules would make it illegal to categorically deny health care coverage related to gender transition, exclusions that still appear in the vast majority of privateand public health insurance plans in the United States. Instead, plans must cover medically necessary medications, surgeries, and other treatments for gender dysphoria for transgender people if they cover similar services to non-transgender people with other medical conditions.
