July 2014

Jul 25 - Aug 17 (Fri - Sun) - Poseidon! An Upside Down Musical (Buffalo United Artists, One Curtain Up, Buffalo, NY 13205) Jimmy Janowski and a full manifest of Buffalo stage stars embark on POSEIDON: THE UPSIDE DOWN MUSICAL. One of the first and best specimens of the disaster movie genre, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE is archetype in full bloom: huge sets, big budget, a star-studded, award winning ensemble cast, and an over the top premise. As the celebratory clock strikes midnight, the luxury liner SS Poseidon is hit by a 90' high tidal wave and capsizes, forcing the cast of characters to climb from the top, now the bottom, up through the ship to safety. The production promises fabulous special effects and jaw dropping musical production numbers such as Just Panties… (What Else Do I Need?), Keep On Climbing!, Bad Girls Need Love Too and (In The Water) I'm A Very Skinny Lady, sang by Janowski as Mrs. Rosen, the part played in the movie by Shelley Winters. Shows are Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. Sundays at 7:00 p.m. Tickets 25.00, 23.00 Seniors. 20.00 BUA Members, 15.00 Students (valid I.D.) GRAND GALA OPENING on July 25 AT 8:00 p.m..Reception with the cast following the performance. Special Surprises! Tickets: $35.00 Phone: (716) 886-9239. Email: [email protected]. Jul 31 - Aug 9 (Thu - Sat) - 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche (Dramashop, Renaissance Centre, 2nd Floor, 1001 State St, Erie, PA 16501) 8 PM. Another new element to the Dramashop season is our Studio Show. Similar in scope and content to our Fringe Festival shows of the past. it’s slightly more subversive, perhaps a bit more avant-garde than the mainstage offerings. This year’s Studio Show, direct from the NYC Fringe Festival and is currently playing off-Broadway, An absurdist look at a ladies’ society in the 1950s, FIVE LESBIANS EATING A QUICHE delivers exactly what it promises. The play is packed with tongue-in-cheek humor, absurdist comedy, and subtle social satire, all of which combine to form a rollicking and sometimes shocking theatrical ride. Runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 PM. Email: [email protected]. Browse to http://dramashop.org/.
