Feb 1 - 22 (Wed - Wed) - Exhibition: Graphic Intervention: 25 Years of International AIDS Awareness Posters (Doucette Hall, Edinboro University, Edinboro, PA 16444) The exhibition is free and open to the public. The exhibition was sponsored and created by the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. It draws from an extensive archive of arresting, graphic, intense and fearless international public health announcements. With 153 examples from 44 countries this exhibition presents a comprehensive overview of the diverse visual strategies employed by government agencies, community activists, grassroots organizations, and motivated citizens to educate the local population. The exhibition draws upon James Lapides' extensive archive of international AIDS awareness posters along with posters generously donated to Massachusetts College of Art and Design and is traveling around the United States, curated by Elizabeth Resnick. Feb 8 (Wed) - Donor Unknown Screening (Mercyhurst College Performing Arts Center, 501 E 38th St, Erie, PA) 7 PM. Please join the Mercyhurst Evelyn Lincoln Institute for Ethics & Society in viewing a documentary about JoEllen Marsh as she goes in search of the sperm donor father she only knows as Donor 150. JoEllen, a senior at Mercyhurst, managed to track down a half-sister in NY. The NY Times picked up the story, and over time 13 more half-siblings and her sperm donor emerged across the U.S. The documentary tracks JoEllen's journey as she finds her biological connections, and gives audiences a unique perspective on a 21st century family.
The documentary will be screened at 2:15 and 7:15 p.m. at the Mercyhurst College Performing Arts Center. There will be a short Q&A with JoEllen following the afternoon screening, and a roundtable discussion following the evening screening. The discussion will feature JoEllen Marsh, Dr. David Dausey and Dr.Melissa Heerboth.

Correcting Civil Wrongs through Civil Rights in an Uncivil Time: Lecture by Greg Rabb (Carnahan Theater, Jamestown Community College, Jamestown, NY) 10:30 AM. "Correcting Civil Wrongs through Civil Rights in an Uncivil Time" is the topic for the February 11, 2012 meeting of the Jamestown Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Gregory Rabb, will be the speaker. Rabb is Associate Professor of Political Science and Coordinator of Global Education at Jamestown Community College where he has been a member of the faculty since 1986. Among his degrees is a Juris Doctor from SUNY Buffalo. In May of 2011 he received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and in 1994 he received the T. Richard Parker Memorial Award for Social Justice from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown for his work in advancing the civil rights of gay and lesbian Americans. Greg is a former member of the New York State Advisory Committee to the US Civil Rights Commission. He has done research and writing on both Robert Jackson and the Canadian approach to Individual Rights. He is currently the President of the Jamestown City Council and will be the only Jamestown delegate from the NY 27th Congressional district at the Democratic National Convention in September.
The program will take place in the Carnahan Theater at Jamestown Community College. There will be a social hour at 10:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 11:00. The Erie Sisters Transgender Support Group, in conjunction with Jekyll & Hyde's Gastropub, will hold a hold a charitable event to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank, 1507 Grimm Avenue in Erie. On Friday, February 24, members of the Erie Sisters will be waiting on tables at Jekyll and Hyde's from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.
