Pittsburgh, PA – PFLAG Pittsburgh, the leading support, education and advocacy organization for families, friends and members of the LGBTQ community, is excited to announced that, beginning in July, the group will be holding their regular monthly meetings at PERSAD Center which is located inside Lawrenceville Square at 5301 Butler Street in in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood.

Founded in 1989, PFLAG Pittsburgh provides support groups for parents, friends, and family members as well as individuals identifying as LGBTQ. In addition to providing fellowship and support group discussions, the monthly PFLAG meeting hosts featured speakers addressing a wide range of topics including coming out, staying healthy, community awareness and issue advocacy. The group meets the second Sunday of each month from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

PFLAG Pittsburgh has a long history of working throughout the region advocating programming, education and policies supporting the LGBTQ community; in 1997 the Pittsburgh PFLAG chapter played a role in launching the Friday Night Drop-In program at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center (GLCC), now the longest running youth program in the region for LGBTQ youth. PFLAG co-sponsored a convention on LGBTQ Bullying in 2013 bringing together individuals from across the region and around the country to address the bullying of LGBTQ students. The chapter has also created directories of competent medical providers as well as LGBTQ affirming religious organizations.

As the mother of a gay son, in 1972 Jeanne Manford saw the cultural and legal oppression faced by the LGBT community and established the first PFLAG chapter in New York City. Having grown to over 400 chapters worldwide, PFLAG provides support, education, and advocacy to the LGBT community and their family and friends.

Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the original family and ally organization. Made up of parents, families, friends, and straight allies uniting with LGBT people, PFLAG is committed to advancing equality through its mission of support, education and advocacy. Now in its 45th year, PFLAG has more than 400 chapters and 200,000 supporters crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities and rural areas in all 50 states.

This vast grassroots network is cultivated, resourced, and serviced by PFLAG National, located in Washington, D.C., the National Board of Directors and 13 volunteer Regional Directors. To learn more, please visit http://www.pflag.org.
