SPLC: North Carolina Governor's Executive Order Does Not Stop Discrimination Against Transgender People in the State; Businesses Urged to Leave North Carolina

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - April 12, 2016 – The following statement regarding North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory's signage today of an executive order changing the equal employment policy for state workers to apply to discrimination claims related to sexual orientation and gender identity is by David Dinielli, deputy legal director at the Southern Poverty Law Center:

"The move by Gov. Pat McCrory today is too little and too late – it does not change the fact that transgender people still cannot use bathrooms in many places throughout the state. HB 2 is an affront to all North Carolinians and should be repealed in its entirety. Until it is, we urge more businesses to pull out of the state. Nobody should be forced to face the perils of HB 2."
