Note from the author:

The LGBT community has made immense progress in the last decade thanks to people like you who support efforts toward equality. We still have a long way to go. I've written a novel entitled, Finding Pluck which addresses some of the issues that LBGT people have all faced along the road. It was written as entertainment, but also with the intent of reaching a general audience, so that they can see some of the obstacles that the LBGT community encounter daily. Some of my early Beta readers have come back to me and asked, "Did those things really take place?" While you and I know that they did, the average person often does not realize what people of the LGBT community have faced over the years and still face. So, in that regard, I believe I was a success. But now, I need to get people to read the novel.

Toward that end, one very positive thing that has happened, was that Finding Pluck was recognized by being awarded First Prize in the William Faulkner Literary Awards. The Faulkner Literary Awards has been paying tribute to works of literature for decades and attracts entries from all over the world. I felt immensely honored and feel this helps toward the credibility of the novel as well as toward the potential of appeal to a general audience as well as a LGBT audience.

Naturally, I want to get as many people as possible reading Finding Pluck. As a promotion, I have decided to give all net proceeds, from now through the end of March to the Point Foundation. If you are not aware of this organization, it gives scholarships to young LGBT students who show promise to be our future leaders.

So, I'm asking for your help. Please let all your LGBT friends and LGBT allies, and anybody else you think would enjoy reading it, know about this novel.

Synopsis:

It is 1995 in North Carolina and high-school student Taylor Hanes is struggling to escape his small-minded dying textile town. He finds his ticket out by being awarded a full-ride Gay and Lesbian Equality Scholarship to a state university. Problem is, he isn't gay. He lied on the application. Abruptly, he is shocked by hometown intolerance, and worse yet, he awakens the wrath of the scholarship's long dead benefactor.

Taylor contends with the hauntings as he continues into college. He joins forces with a group of friends who help him investigate why the benefactor is an unsettled spirit. Along with this and his studies, Taylor is also forced to carry out duties related to his scholarship. These requirements enlighten his understanding of the origins and human cost of prejudice and further his resolve to help the restless spirit find answers in order to cross over.

The narrative deftly moves between the present and when the benefactor attended college in 1927, the pinnacle of the Jazz age and a period of great change and moral conflict. As the friends dig deeper, the story draws parallels in the lives of the characters. This is a coming-of-age novel based on actual examples of the culture of prejudice and connects with the heart as well as with the mind.
