Intersections of Equality Symposium

On Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, the Greater Erie Alliance for Equality (GEAE) is sponsoring "Intersections of Equality: An Educational Symposium" at the Black Conference Center on the campus of Penn State Behrend. The symposium will take place from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. The symposium is co-sponsored by Penn State Behrend and the D&I Department of Erie Insurance.


Our keynote presentations will include: 


Session 1: "Lives of LGBT People in PA" a panel presentation on the successes and trials of LGBT life in PA.


Session 2: "Bullying and Anti-Bullying," by Dr. Charisse Nixon (Penn State Behrend) and The Crime Victim Center of Erie County.


Session 3: "Intersections of Race, Gender, and Sexuality," by Dr. Theresa Vescio (Penn State University, State College)


Session 4: "Equality Legislation in PA," by The Honorable Brian Sims, PA House Representative (Pennsylvania's first openly gay state representative).

Each keynote presentation includes Q&A with the speakers. The symposium will provide a table fair for area organizations who work at the intersections of sexuality, gender, race, education, and/or social services.
