Rainbow Pride Conference Features Workshops and Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus

from Rainbow Pride Connection

A concert by the Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus, various workshops and a screening of the film Gen Silent are all part of this year's Rainbow Pride Connection Conference set for Sept. 14 at the Chautauqua Institution.

The conference kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with signin at Bellinger Hall on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution. Workshops will be held at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. and include topics of interest to all members of the GLBT community. At 4 p.m., there will be a wine and cheese reception followed by dinner at 5 p.m.

The keynote dinner speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Richard McCarty, assistant professor of religious studies at Mercyhurst University. Dr. McCarty is also president of the Greater Erie Alliance for Equality (GEAE) and is ordained as a minister of word and sacrament in the United Church of Christ. He volunteers as the pastoral assistant at Community United Church in Erie.

At 6:15 p.m., the film Gen Silent will be shown. Gen Silent is a documentary about how the generation that fought hardest to come out is being forced back into the closet in order to survive in senior housing and assisted living.

The Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus will take to the stage at 8 p.m. for a concert of great musical selections. A reception with the Chorus members will follow. Registration fee for the conference is $30 ($25 for seniors age 65 and over and for full-time college students). You must be at least age 18 to attend the conference. The fee includes all of the conference activities including dinner. If you would just like to attend the Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus concert, tickets are $15 each.
