The Renaissance City Choirs Continue 25th Anniversary Season With Spring Concert

(Pittsburgh, PA -- March 16, 2010) – The Renaissance City Choirs will perform their 25th anniversary spring concert, The Best of RCC: 25 Years, Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17th at 8pm at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh. Tickets are available through the RCC website, www.rccpittsburgh.org.

The concert is a celebration of 25 years of making change through music. There will be special appearances from former artistic directors Larry Marietta, Susan Haugh and Darlene Durrwachter-Rushing to conduct the choirs for selected songs. The concert will feature songs that are listeners’ perennial favorites including When We Sing, Down In the River To Pray and Leonard Bernstein’s Make Our Garden Grow. The chorus has also commissioned a new work by renowned composer Dr. Jeffrey Nytch written especially to celebrate the choirs’ first 25 years. In keeping with the anniversary theme for the concert, the commissioned piece excerpts text from Joe Brainard’s classic memoir, I Remember.

About The Renaissance City Choirs:

The Renaissance City Choirs’ mission is to promote a positive image of the GLBT community and to be a leading contributor to the cultural life of the tri-state area. The choruses seek to build bridges both within the GLBT community and with the community at large. Programming blends challenging contemporary music; commissions of new works; an ambitious, traditional repertoire; and music from various world cultures. They
seek to educate, challenge and enlighten both audiences and singing membership. They continue to affirm, by example and through song, the worth and dignity of sexual minorities. Music that is gay-positive and openly supports issues related to human equality and justice is represented at all concerts. The Renaissance City Choirs are proud members of GALA Choruses.
