We Came to Sign with Holly Near and emma's revolution

We are proud to present a stirring new release, We Came to Sing!, from legendary singer Holly Near in collaboration with the award-winning duo, emma’s revolution, who are Pat Humphries and Sandy O.

On this CD, Holly and emma's revolution put their unique stamp on songs from Holly's repertoire with tender and daring a cappella vocal arrangements of some of Holly's most requested songs plus several new ones with acoustic instrumental back-up.

Musical styles range from a meditation on Study War No More to a light-hearted jazzy version of Swimming To The Other Side, a Pat Humphries’ classic. Holly includes The Ministry of Oil, a smart and pointed song she learned from The Prince Myshkins.  There is a divine version of Sky Dances, a song by Roy Brown and Jimmy Durham, which has become a classic in Holly's repertoire. Sail Away Lady, a traditional song that Holly learned as a young teen, is a lovely tribute to the folk legend Odetta. And Holly and emma's revolution breathe new trio life into versions of Mountain Song, 1000 Grandmothers, Sing To Me The Dream, Fired Up, and West Virginia Friend, which Holly's audiences have heard her perform solo over the years.

Holly Near is a unique combination of entertainer, teacher and activist. An immense vocal talent, Near's career as a singer has been profoundly defined by an unwillingness to separate her passion for music from her passion for human dignity. She is a skilled performer and an outspoken ambassador for peace who brings to the stage an integration of world consciousness, spiritual discovery, and theatricality.

"Bold, profound, moving, hilarious and transformative," emma's revolution writes songs that have become traditions.  Their hauntingly beautiful harmonies and acoustic instrumentals deliver the energy and strength of their convictions.  A motivating force from intimate concerts to mass demonstrations, emma's revolution brings their uprising of truth, hope and a dash of healthy irreverence to concerts and peace and justice events around the world.
