Okay, so I am flipping channels, and happened to stumble across The Tudors on BBC America. There was a dance scene in the court, and I instantly recognized that the piece of music playing was a Courante by Michael Praetorius from (I believe) Dances From Terpsichore. I used to play it on the recorder . . . → Read More: Confirmed: I am a MAJOR nerd

I went to my 30th high school reunion tonight. I had this weird neurotic fear that I would get there, and not be able to remember anyone or anything, and the evening would just be awkward. It went fine. I was surprised by how much I remembered, and everyone was very nice and friendly.

I was recently talking with a friend, who had helped me out with some work on my house. (I have pretty much all of my windows replaced.) His father had passed on a few months ago, and he mentioned that there were 2 antique autos from the Hudson Motor Car Company that had seen . . . → Read More: Names for 2 cars

Okay, so I haven’t blogged in a while. Best laid plans of mice and men, etc. This morning, I was changing a light bulb (a CFL sort) and was having a problem getting it out of the socket and it pretty much burst. It wasn’t too bad, but I managed to slice the tip . . . → Read More: Thumb ouchie

I have been kind of stressed this week. There was a software update I was installing at work at a customer’s that would not run on their system, but ran on mine. I was wracking my brain as to what I had changed in the code, and it turns out that it was a . . . → Read More: Feeling like a mooch

So, I got a bit of spam message purportedly looking to hire someone “residing in the territory of the EU” who is “18 till 60 years old” and has a bank account. Pretty obviously a scam, correct? The punch line is the name that it was supposedly sent by: Teena Swindle!

This past week, I had a rather odd phone call. This happened around midnight. What sounded to be a young woman led in with “Are you guys right off the thruway?” I was sort of puzzled and figured that she was asking about Erie Gay News, and explained that although we weren’t far from . . . → Read More: An odd phone call

Hmm, I am guessing that something must be percolating in my unconscious. This morning, I had what seemed to be a fairly long and detailed dream. I had the sense of being in a character in a movie based on a story by Isaac Bashevis Singer, based on a Jewish folktale or something. (I . . . → Read More: Yet another bizarre dream

Once a year, my workplace gives out a gift certificate for a local market. Today, I figured that I would head over there and use it. (I usually am only at this establishment once a year.) I ran into my friend Jeff, which amused me, as we had unexpectedly bumped into each other at . . . → Read More: An odd encounter and an odd dream

I was looking on the Datalounge and found this thread, which links to this story. I have to admit that my first thought was it gave new meaning to the phrase “coldcocked”. Maybe they should just refer to it as an icedickle? (Yeah, I know. Ouch. I’m here all week, folks! Try the veal!)
