Hanging with Rainbow Families at their picnic

I was sort of torn previously about going to the Youngstown Pride Picnic or the Rainbow Families picnic. They were both today. oddly enough, I have interacted much more with the Youngstown folks, so I figured I should go to the Rainbow Families picnic. (Oh, and getting up late pretty much cinched the deal, as I would have gotten late to Youngstown anyway.)

I had gotten caught up on a number of other computer tasks, and then I headed out. It as a lovely time in Asbury Woods Playground. I had some small confusion finding which section of the park, but it worked out just fine. They were all very nice! (I happened to be the only adult male there.) Most of the kids were toddlers and fairly young.

At one point, one of the women was discussing going through various procedures to conceive with another woman. She looked at me and asked if it was too much info. I genuinely wasn’t freaked out. (I also thought in addition, it would be pretty rude to expect that the conversation should adhere to the lone male’s possible sensibilities.) I told her about the time I went over to visit some friends. I walked in the door as one friend, a recent mom, was using a breast pump, and her daughter had just had explosive diarrhea all over the lap of another woman, who hastily removed her skirt to clean it. So, it was pretty much an avalanche of female body parts. It didn’t phase me at all.

The kids seemed to have a great time playing, and everyone was really nice. It was a great afternoon, and I am glad that there are folks like the Rainbow Families around!
