Meeting with my State Rep

I just met with Rep. Flo Fabrizio, who is my representative in the Pennsylvania State Assembly about House Bill 745 (which would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the hate crimes law that has already been in place for years) and House Bill 300 (which would add sexual orientation and gender identity/expression to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.)

It was actually a pretty easy meeting as Fabrizio is already a co-sponsor on both bills. I first met him when Erie County passed similar legislation in 2002. So, my main focus was finding out what we could do to get this legislation to the floor or what the next step is. Fabrizio very graciously said that he would get back to me after checking in with the original sponsors of each bill.

This might very well have been planned; when I walked into the office, I noticed that there was a stack of papers on the desk behind him and the most recent copy of Erie Gay News was on top. It definitely scored points with me! :)

I am hoping that other folks will also meet with their representatives. It was really a quick and easy thing to do. I was in and out of there within maybe 15 minutes total.
