Made it through the Severely Queer Weekend

This past weekend was pretty booked for me. I went to Ashtabula on Saturday for the Ashtabula GLBT Outreach Alliance picnic, which was very nice. I had some barriers getting out the door – all of the rechargeable batteries for my camera seem to have died, and the holder for the GPS seems to have busted, but I was able to make do. It was a great bunch of folks, and I really enjoyed hanging out.

I came home and went out to the Zone Dance Club for a bit later that night.

Sunday afternoon, James and I went down to the Butler County Rainbow Community Picnic, which was held by PFLAG County Butler and Persad Center. There were some other Pittsburgh based groups represented as well. When we got out of the car, I noticed that James had brought a picnic basket for table setting and etc. I said that it reminded me of… and then he finished with Dorothy’s basket from the Wizard of Oz. I was impressed by the turnout, and Joe Tomlinson sent a thank you article. They are most definitely all a class act!

At the picnic, I was chatting with Jason Crighton and Tom Waters of Delta Foundation, Pittsburgh Pride and Equality Partners of Western PA. It turns out that Jason had been interviewed when Kathy Griffin did a recent show about ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, so it was exciting seeing him in a short clip on My Life on the D-List. I have that episode still on my DVR, so will have to watch and maybe see if that segment is online.

I went home, and Deb was working on finishing the newsletter. It was basically done, and I would have sent it off, but I ran into a technical issue, and wanted to head off to the Zone Dance Club to take photos for the 1 year anniversary of FACE, the monthly drag show. It went fairly well and I took quite a few photos. I also bumped into a woman I knew from high school. She had emailed me as to whether it was okay for straight folks to come, so I told her that it was perfectly okay.

When I got home, I was kind of wiped out, and when I submitted the job for printing, I forgot to check double –sided. I frantically wrote en email message and left a voice mail to the printer (who would not have been open) explaining my error. I got an email Monday morning saying that they had got it. It shipped yesterday, so I am presuming that they did in fact print it double sided. (If not, I am going to be eating a LOT of crow on Thursday when we fold.) They had included the UPS tracking number, which would tell me how many boxes, and thus indicate that it was okay, but they included the wrong UPS tracking number, so I get to be neurotic/obsessive for a bit. Sigh.

I took Monday off to relax, although I ended up working on printing the postage and posting articles for the newsletter most of the day.

I took the dogs out for a walk Monday night and saw Jesse and Ricardo on their tandem bike – twice! (once they were close enough that I could say “Hi guys!” For folks out of the area, Jesse and Ricardo are a local gay male couple who tend to wear matching outfits and or distinctive hats. They are sort of a local beloved institution and someone created a fan page for them on Facebook. I always feel oddly reassured and comforted when I see them out.

So, that’ was my Severely Queer weekend.

Thanks, although my birthday is next month (August 21.) I share my birthday with Kim Cattrall, Mitchell Anderson (gay actor who played gay violin teacher on Party of Five), and adult film star Jeff Stryker.
