I screwed up big time late last night. My dog Heracles had some matted fur behind his ears, and I was working to trim it away, and he yelped. It turns out that I cut his ear pretty badly. He’s going to be okay, and I took him to the emergency pet center this AM, since it still looked a bit bloody. (Didn’t seem to be actively bleeding a whole bunch, and he seemed to be about as perky as normal.)
They ended up doing surgery to repair the laceration, and they had to put him under. He can be a tad boisterous, so working on the ear when he was conscious would now have been difficult. He is now in one of those funnel-head collars so that he can’t scratch. Probably will be a challenge to keep it on, and I am trying to figure out how to make sure that he can eat and drink. He seems to be kind of low-level, which is probably mostly recovering from the anesthesia and surgery.
He had also been having a problem with hot spots/dermatitis, so they treated that, and part of his back is shaved.
Just feeling really guilty for having hurt him,.
