Election re-do went fairly well

I was more than a tad apprehensive tonight as the Erie County Democratic Party had to redo the election of officers because of an issue from the meeting last month. The meeting last month didn’t go so well, and I was worried about another 3 hours of excruciating agony. In general, I hate anything that feels like by-law meetings or that kind of policy wonk stuff.

I had sort of resolved that if it dragged out, I would give it until 8:30 and then just walk out.

The ballots and procedure were much better organized this time. There seemed to be a minimum of off-topic and poor process stuff. I suspect that everyone also wanted to avoid the mess from last time.

I should say that I would be happy to work with any of the proposed officers. It was just the process of deciding last time that had me frustrated. When I was emailing with someone who was going to be there tonight, I borrowed a line from my late grandfather and said that if anyone held this up or went off on a tangent, I would personally rip their arm out of their socket and beat them with the bloody stump.

I sat next to a friend and someone who ran for 2nd Vice Chair. Dummy me forgot to bring a pen, so the 3 of us were passing a pen back between us. I had a vague memory of the 3 gorgons that passed an eye between the group so that they could see.

Guilty confession: 2nd Vice Chair is very definitely qualified, energetic, dedicated and etc, but I also think he is kinda hot. He ended up winning.

I helped a bit with clean up. I chatted with one of the ward chairs on the way out about some geek stuff. (He was curious about web site stuff, so happy to help out.) As I was walking back to my car to drive home, I glanced down at my watch, and yup, it was exactly 8:30.

All’s well that ends! I do feel that this meeting was MUCH better and hopefully we have learned our lesson. Excited by how things will go!
