Friday was rather busy. When we were folding Erie Gay News the night before, my friend Erin mentioned that she was going to be off the next day, so I asked her if she would be up for picking up some items for the upcoming Pride Picnic. She very kindly said that she would, so I got her the list. Erin had also posted that she was going to be doing a dress rehearsal in the Frontier Park Amphitheater for a play that she and some friends are doing at a Renaissance Faire. Seeing that Frontier Park is pretty much around the corner, and since I had some other items to get to her, I stopped by to watch the performance.
It was a lot of fun – it was written by Amanda, who had hosted the murder mystery birthday party for Erin a few months ago. The play was commedia dell’arte and set in Italy. I was enjoying the performance and my cell phone went off during a dance scene. The dance was Ballo del Fiore, which I had seen done a few times years ago when I was in the SCA. I don’t think I ever learned it. (I tend to be much more into English Country Dance.)
I quickly silenced the phone, and noticed that the call had come from my brother-in-law, Tom, who was calling about leaving from Toledo with my sister. They were scheduled to have brunch with the rest of the family in Erie this morning (which was very nice) and then on to Jamestown and Buffalo NY to visit Tom’s family. As it so happens, I met Tom through the SCA years ago, and he had taught dance. (It turns out that when I asked him later that he didn’t know the steps to Ballo del Fiore.)
At the conclusion of the play, I left the basket of picnic swag with Erin and went back to my car to head out to Jamestown NY to drop off the last of the newsletters. I had packed my GPS unit with me when I headed out to the play so that I could leave directly. When I got back to the car, I couldn’t find it. I frantically searched the car and then went home to look, but I couldn’t find it. (And yes, I know that it is wildly ironic that I needed a GPS unit to find my GPS unit at that point.)
I then wondered if I had dropped it in the basket o’ swag that I gave to Erin, so I dashed back to the park and found the basket. Yup! GPS found!
I got the copies in Jamestown dropped off fairly quickly and ended up at Sneakers. When I was walking in, I saw a familiar car. It turned out to be Jerry, who had been at folding the night before, and had decided on a whim to come up to Jamestown. We chatted for a bit and also chatted with the other folks in the bar.
At one point, the subject of lesbian musicians came up, and Jerry and I were trying to recall the name of the country singer who recently came out. We thought of a few others, but we just couldn’t recall her name.
I headed home and was flipping radio stations, and I happened to settle on NPR. As it so happens, Chely Wright, the afore-mentioned lesbian country musician, was being interviewed.
So, apparently the laws of probability seem to have been temporarily repealed last night.
