A Benefit and something unexpected

Although I was still a tad tired, I really wanted to go out to the benefit for the late Mark Pacheco that the Zone Dance Club had last night. I thought it would be good to take some photos, because I think that it is very important to show when the community does something positive.

So, it was a good show, and they raised a few hundred dollars for Mark’s family. I am really proud that the folks came together to ameliorate some suffering.

Afterwards, I was talking with some friends who had been involved, and we talked a fair amount about the need that we all have to reach out and work together. (Season used the phrase “unity in the community.”)

When I went back to my car, I couldn’t get it to start! I was sort of panicking and went back inside to see if I could get some help. Season and three lesbians who had performed as drag kings came out to take a look. (And yes, I know that it is probably a stereotype, but my first thought was “okay, the lesbians are here. I am in good hands and everything will be okay.) They tried to give me a jump, but it didn’t solve the problem. Chris, Season’s husband, also looked at the car. They guessed that it was probably the alternator, the starter or the fuel pump. They recommended a shop that I hadn’t heard of before and the lesbians also gave me a ride home.

I am amused and lifted in spirit by the fact that so soon after talking about the community working together and supporting each other, I saw friends do exactly that. I consider myself to be an incredibly lucky person and am very deeply grateful that I have so much goodness around me.

And yup, they were indeed correct. The car is now fixed and it was indeed the starter.
