A nugatory use of the word “nugatory”

For the Monday programmers meeting, the usual facilitator usually randomly picks a word and then has a definition. This week’s word was “nugatory”, which means “Of little or no consequence, having no force” He then went on to mention that he had recently heard that word used on TV, which made him feel rather excited.

I quipped that this story about the word “nugatory” was itself nugatory.

Yeah, I can be a bitch. ;)

I would have thought that ‘nugatory’ meant “pertaining to something bought or sold in the parking lot of a jam band’s concert”. E.g., ‘Dude, that was a really nugatory pipe you picked up at the Widespread Panic show last month’.

I am probably showing my age/nerdiness here, but the first image that popped into my head was Bill Murray as Todd whapping his knuckles against Gilda Radner as Lisa Loopner and talking about nuggies (or is that noogies?)
