Why I feel good about being out

I had an email from a woman in Butler this morning who asked if there was something like a chapter of PFLAG in Butler or one of the adjoining communities. I wrote back to tell her that there was actually a group of folks working on forming exactly that.

Earlier, I was emailing with some wonderful women who are forming a GLBT parents’ group and they apparently were contacted by some friends who are parents that I had forwarded info to.

Whenever I can help folks connect or find a needed resource, it just makes me feel happy and useful. Neither of these things were particularly difficult and they may not be earth-shattering, but feeling like one is hopefully making a difference is a joy in my life.

I am also gearing up for the Great Nationwide Kiss-In tomorrow. I am hoping that goes well.

Howdy mike! I love you for all the wonderful things you do for other people to make life a bit nicer. Thanks(bear hugs)
I would like to tell everyone (late) That I’m going to have a drumm circle at the farm here on Sat 22nd 3pm till?
see how that goes. By next spring I should have space to rent for camping.
McPherson Fields is a safe place for Gays and les, and bi and confused people.
The main goal is education. If any one is interested in comming get in touch with me. Hugs from raven

Back in the days before the Internet, I called PFLAG for information. There was a particularly nasty spurt of homophobia on one of the local (Erie) morning shows. I was beside myself with fury and didn’t know where I could complain or what to say or do. So I knew about PFLAG and called them. A lovely woman gave me some guidance, said she’d pass along about it, etc. A few days later Hawk was listening to the show and they did a heartfelt apology and temporarily stopped the unfunny campaign. It was around the time of Ellen’s coming-out. Anyway, I have a special fondness for PFLAG partly b/c of that.

Hmm, if you called the Erie chapter of PFLAG in when Ellen came out, that would have been 1997 and the person that you talked with would have been then-President Elaine Hill, who is indeed a wonderful person!
Nifty about the drumming, Raven! Let me see if I can post that to the UNCLE site and a few other places.
