Erie, PA – Congresswoman-elect Kathy Dahlkemper is now accepting military academy applications through December 15, 2008.
“As Congresswoman, I have the honor of recommending a select group of candidates to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point. To be eligible for such a nomination, interested applicants must be residents of Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, be
between the ages of 17 and 23, unmarried and have no dependents,” said Dahlkemper.
Due to the transition of offices and the competitiveness of the selection process to these academies Congresswoman-elect Dahlkemper is attempting to do everything possible to expedite the process for the candidates. By holding the interviews in December, it will allow Dahlkemper to submit the recommendations on January 6, 2009 once she is sworn in.
According to Dahlkemper, applicants are judged on a competitive basis, including the student’s SAT or ACT scores, class rank, grade point average, school records and letters of recommendation. A review panel of individuals from the district will interview candidates in late December; students will be contacted in advance of their interview with interview specifics.
