A friend of mine who was the original convener for Pagan Pride Day here in Erie has been facing some very tough times. She is dealing with some serious health issues and things are quite scary on that front.
Her son just started at a new college on Monday. He was moving to study surveying/GPS stuff and seemed to be really moving towards an exciting part of his life, just full of promise. He came with his mother to Pagan Pride Day 2 weeks ago, and it was great seeing them.
Last night, he was driving with 3 friends in his car. There was a head on collision with another car, and both drivers died. The 3 friends were flown to the hospital. When she checked, one was in serious condition, one was still in critical condition, and the other person they couldn’t find on the computer, which my friend was worried meant that they didn’t make it.
I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like to lose your son unexpectedly while facing a life-threatening illness. I called her as soon as I could, and contacted the other board members of the United NeoPagan Council of Lake Erie, who were all deeply saddened. We are trying to figure out how to handle this.
I had a call from work at about the same time that this was all going down. I figured that my friend’s situation was a tad more dire, but I did call the customer back as soon as I could.
