I was contacted by someone on Facebook that I didn't at first recognize. It turns out that we had gone to high school together, but he had only been there for the senior year and we had been in the same Advanced Placement (AP) Biology class, which was rather small.
I remember the teacher as being quite conservative politically and kind of gruff/cranky. I also had Joyce Savocchio for AP History that year, and that was when she was running for City Council the first time. I seem to recall that the biology teacher griped a few times about Savocchio. On the plus side, having a teacher running for City Council prompted me to register to vote, and I have voted in just about every election except one that I was out of town for since I was old enough to vote.
The guy who wrote to me mentioned another classmate in Biology that he had a crush on. I let him know that the object of his crush had emailed me a few years ago, and also turned out to be gay. Hmm, I wonder if the Biology teacher was cranky because he was rather right wing politically and he ended up teaching effectively the local Future Queers of America chapter at the school. ;)
The guy writing to me mentioned another guy in the class that he had a crush on as well. (After I came out a few years after that, I realized that I had a crush on the same guy as well.)
So the Strong Vincent High School class of 1981 was apparently rather a hot bed of queerdom. ;)
While writing this, I was listening to "Courante" by Richard Searles
