I don't know why I didn't think of this before. For the Erie Gay News web site, I had submissions for various actions (entering a contest, registering for Pride events, requesting a sample print copy, adding birthday info to the Friends and Supporters page, leaving a comment on an article) sending me an email (as well as to the person making the request) and was then putting into the body of the email that they had to reply. When I got the reply email back, I went into the home grown content management system/admin area of the site, and verified them by bringing them up. and then checking off a box, which ran some code.
It wasn't bad, but I realized that it is fairly common to just have folks click on a link in the email, so I think I now have that working okay. (Yay! Less work for me!) As a bonus, it also signs them up for any email lists that they requested, which makes me feel even better about having switched to Dada Mail.
While doing this, I also discovered a minor bug in the contest entry processing page that might have kept people that weren't already in the database from entering a contest. I fixed that for the last contest when it was almost over, and got a few new folks submitting within the final 15 minutes or so. Since we are having an upcoming contest for the Big Gay Sketch Show Season 2 DVD and also another contest for a $50 gift certificate for Body Language, I feel really good about having made the change.
Totally separate from that, I also checked out the Action Streams plugin for Movable Type. I wasn't sure if I really needed a feed for the various other sites, but I did add a section for Find Me Elsewhere with all of my profiles on other sites to the main page of this blog towards the bottom of the right sidebar. I was thinking about trying to include that info on a page, but that is a project for another time. I couldn't figure out how to create a page in Movable Type 4.1 that held a widget.
