Wow. Because of editing the newsletter, we get notices about stuff to review. So what came to my inbox yesterday was something from what appears to be a vanity press. Allow me to share:
Enemy Exposed: Freedom From Bondage
Author Explores Real Cause of and Solution to Homosexuality
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The prevalent debate about the "cause" of homosexuality can be called nothing less than a hot-button issue. Fully recognizing the potential controversy as he brings to light a clear and direct correlation between homosexuality and demons, Clinton Clark introduces his new book, Enemy Exposed: Freedom From Bondage ( published by AuthorHouse).
"This book is a fresh voice, not an echo," Clark writes. "This book exposes why both sides of the nature/nurture argument about the cause [of] homosexual orientation are wrong. Once one knows the real cause of homosexual orientation, the pathway to true freedom is targeted and attainable."
Clark struggled for a long time with homosexual orientation. As a Christian, Clark felt that he could be changed. He devoted himself to therapy, following the advice of pastors and so-called "experts" in order to overcome his homosexuality. But, after years of struggling, Clark gave up. Instead of continuing to attempt to change his sexual orientation, he decided to instead love and worship God unconditionally.
After receiving "the baptism of the Holy Spirit" in 1992, Clark became excited about the Holy Spirit and the gifts he had received from him. Then, something strange started happening. According to Clark, as he "worshipped with the Holy Spirit strongly present in his life, demons would begin to manifest by growling, twitching, grimacing, etc."
Clark sought help in getting the demons cast out and, by his account, the very same hour that the demons came out he immediately noticed that something else had left him: his homosexual orientation. Stunned by his own discovery, Clark now sets out to spread the truth to others.
Clark realizes some might be turned off by his claims:
I mean, I am demonizing homosexual orientation, how controversial, yet truthful is that? This message is not only for homosexual persons that just happened to be my issue. I was stunned when this happened especially because all the experts said homosexual orientation is not caused by demons, but it is gone in its entirety.
When asked about his message of hope possibly being misinterpreted as a message of hate, Clark writes:
People tend to project what they themselves are. People who go around screaming, "hate" every few minutes are usually very judgmental and hateful. I think it is important that every time we hear someone trying to silence the message of freedom spoken in love, that we speak out against the hate. Because speaking the truth of freedom, like my book Enemy Exposed does is love.
Wow. "Demonizing homosexual orientation?" Sorry that he thinks it's daring. Noted whack jobs have been doing that for years. (And I find myself thinking of the character of the Crowleyesque and comical Sir Simon as played by Kevin McDonald from Kids in the Hall: "I am a man possessed by DEMONS! Polite demons who would open the door for a woman with too many packages, but DEMONS NONETHELESS!")
Here is what I sent back:
Um, why on Earth are you sending me this crap?? So, being gay is about being possessed by demons? Have we been watching too many episodes of Buffy? Are we confusing genuine scientific theory with Dungeons and Dragons?
No, I do not want a review copy. I don't want to be on your email distribution list. But thanks for some truly hysterical blog fodder!
It's things like this that make one question the existence of intelligent terrestrial life.
