I went out a bit after midnight to Trance Night Club's closing night. Unsurprisingly, it was packed. It was a frequent joke that if they had had a monthly "we're closing" event, they probably wouldn't have closed. A few of us referred to the idea as being something like Cher's farewell tour.
I saw a lot of people I hadn't seen in a while. I also bounced around to a few people an idea I had read about a few years ago: Guerilla Queer Bar, which dates back to May 2000. I am going to wait a bit to see how things go, and then maybe see if folks are up for it. (The Erie GLBT email list has something like 800-900 addresses on it, so we have a way of getting the info out. Hmm.)
I had a decidedly odd encounter with someone. A guy came up to me and asked me if I needed help in buying Trance. "Huh???" I said. He claimed that there was a rumor going around (among many, I am sure) that yours truly was going to buy Trance and re-open it. I just guffawed. I would have no clue about running a bar, and neither the cash nor the time to do anything like that. Then again, the guy might just have been yanking my chain, and there was no such rumor.
At the end, my friend Vicki asked me to walk her to her car, and we overheard someone say, "Well, you know nothing about lung cancer", which struck me as a very bizarre thing. (What would be the rejoinder? "Well, since I am not an oncologist nor work in the medical field, that is not surprising.")
