Geek and political stuff

I wasn't quite expecting this. I was talking with one of the other programmers, who was trying to add fields for legislative districts to the software for food banks. He had called me over because of some questions. (I should probably mention that although the folks at work know I have some connections with politics, I am probably in the minority in terms of party/ideology, but folks are respectful and cool.)

We bounced around some ideas for the best way to set up the tables for data, and he asked if I would be up for helping design that. I am trying to think of how to set that up so make it both easy and flexible. Although they were only asking about State Senate, I am wondering if it wouldn't make sense to design a structure so that they could add whatever legislative districts that they wanted. I am also thinking about how to attach people (because staff/aides can be important to know in addition to legislators.)

I will probably fiddle with it for a while tomorrow.
