I seem to recall that Pat Boone was complaining about his fellow Christians being judgmental a few years ago when he sang some standards in a heavy metal outfit. I am relieved to hear that the guy he was pushing lost. Maybe people are finally wising up to gaybaiting for votes is a loser's tactic.
Pat Boone sends anti-gay message to voters
Kentucky's Republican Party funded an automated telephone call to voters in which crooner Pat Boone warns that the election of the Democratic nominee for governor will make the state like San Francisco.Polling suggests that Democrat Steven Beshear is positioned to win, with polls showing him 25 percentage points ahead of Republican incumbent Ernie Fletcher, according to PageOneQ.com. His campaign Web site also shows support and endorsements from several local media outlets.
The audio, acquired by the Web site, GoodAsYou, reveals the antigay message from Boone.
"Ernie Fletcher is a typical Kentuckian, he's worked long and hard for the state, its people, and its traditions," Boone says.
"And of course, he has come under attack by political opponents and now he faces a man who wants his job who has consistently supported every homosexual cause: same-sex marriage, gay adoption, special rights to gay, lesbian, bisexual, even transgender individuals."
Boone's message goes on to say that Beshear has been endorsed by gay advocacy groups and implies that the candidate would nullify a voter-approved amendment to the state constitution banning same-sex marriage.
Boone ended his appeal by asking, "Now, do you want a governor who'd like Kentucky to be like another San Francisco? Please reelect Ernie Fletcher."
Fletcher was defeated Tuesday by Democrat Steve Beshear. (The Advocate)
