We were converting a small food bank last night, and I came to a point where I was running something that was pretty much "watching the dots go across the screen." I had felt bad that I hadn't been able to get out to help my friend Jan hookup her new PC, so I figured I would go take care of that while the resummarization ran on the converted data at work. I hopped in the car and drove to Waterford. it was nice seeing Jan, Jim and her mother, Elly. It was fairly simple to hook stuff up, and I wasn't sure how Jan would react to the jump in OS. Her old computer that died was running Windows 98, and the new one that she got runs Windows Vista Home Premium. Also, since she is in such a rural area, she can only get dial up, so when the software and OS were trying to get downloads, it was a pretty lengthy process.
I left the PC running, and hoped that she was going to be able to use it without too much of a problem. I ran back to work to finish the conversion, and loaded it to the customer for them to run live today. (Yours truly would MUCH rather do things at night, than early in the morning.)
Today, I got an email that Jan sent, so she is indeed able to do stuff. I felt good that she was making that kind of progress.
