As for the elephant humping the “2008”… Are they going for a “Still screwing the country in 2008” theme, or is it a reference to hypocritical adulterers like David Vitter and just about the entire Republican presidential field?
All of the above? Check!
Okay, what I would like to know is how did we Democrats get a graphic artist to slip this in? I mean, WTF??!!! Yes, stripes of a certain width on a torso region (particularly horizontal stripes) WILL get read as a prison uniform. Any sort of symbol over eyes is going to be taken as cartoon shorthand for drunk or stoned or some other form of impaired consciousness. And having anything near the crotch region of an animal in a vaguely bent over position is going to get read as that object about to get fucked. If I recall correctly, Gary Larson ran into a similar situation years ago when he drew a driveshaft or something on an overturned car that a dog was howling in triumph on top of.
Politics aside, was everyone asleep at the wheel? And the logo mostly uses the color blue, which is obviously strongly identified with the Democrats!
Oh, I am SO looking forward to hearing what Jon Stewart does with this on The Daily Show. Comedically speaking, this is an embarrassment of riches. You can't write them any better than this!
