I hope that this works out. I had a call from someone who wanted to start a GLBT support group at Gannon. I tried to offer suggestions and help them make connections. I told them that even if they couldn't get a recognized student group, just having something informal that helped people network would be a huge step. I think that they were concerned that they could be legally barred or something.
I mentioned someone that was/is on the faculty that I had been on a few panel discussions for some classes. (AKA "Gay jury duty") I suggested some related groups that they might consider contacting.
I feel really badly because Gannon has never had an official group. When I was looking at colleges to go to (which was before I knew I was gay), Gannon didn't feel right for me because it felt so hierarchical and stuffy. I think that they also had an article in the paper at that time about not being comfortable with faculty who were divorced. This was around 1980.
But the phone call made me feel really good that I might be able to enable someone to make something good happen. Every once in a while, you feel like your life has maybe a bit of purpose.
