I was out at the Zone last night, and was chatting with a good friend, who happens also to be Pagan. Friend #2 came up and offered Friend #1 some of his milkshake. Friend #1 shot back with "which brings all the boys to the yard?" (Referring to the song.) Friend #2 is black and friend #1 is white.
After #1 tried some of #2's milkshake, their faces were close. I quipped and asked if this was a G-rated version of snowballing. (No, I am not into that, but a dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste.)
Friend #1 smiled slyly, finished the rest of the milkshake in one gulp and kissed Friend #2. "Damn!" said Friend #2, "I love vanilla." "I know!" said Friend #1. Hmm. I think that we were talking about more than ice cream flavors here.
I chatted later with Friend #1 about Pagan stuff, and he made a reference to Hermes. I asked whether he knew that was my craft name. (Pagans sometimes take on patron deities, just like Catholics take on patron saints.) It turns out that he is a big fan of "cross roads" deities. I said that was part of the reason that I named my dog Hecate. I also pointed out that I personally feel that doing the newsletter and other stuff has a strong spiritual connection for me, because Hermes tends to deal with communications. He said that he had sort of wondered about that after reading about it. I don't know that many other gay people I know who have made that connection. Cool!
