I saw a headline on CNN reading "Mystery mummy is female pharaoh." Before I clicked on it, I wondered if they were talking about Hatchepsut. One on my favorite books growing up was Will Cuppy's Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody. It was a wonderfully witty series of essays on historical figures, and I remember that the section on Hatchepsut was pretty funny. (One great line from the book: Cuppy noted that Hatchepsut married one of the Thutmoses, who was her relative in several different roles, given how Egyptian monarchs interbred like crazy. Apparently, Hatchepsut didn't get along with any of the Thutmoses in her family so "family relations were strained, as well as numerous.")
I remember going to the library and reading the book, sometimes on Saturdays with my friend, Robert. Robert later turned out to be gay, and Will Cuppy strikes me as probably having been gay as well. (Sorry, straight boys just don't tend to be that skilled at banter and wit. ;) )
