The Whack Job is at it again

I probably should have seen this coming. Local shrew par excellence Diane "Whack Job" Gramley has her knickers in a twist about the LGBT colloquium at Allegheny College in Meadville tomorrow. I got an e-mail from a GLBT friendly attorney, who was mailing some folks. She said that there was an article in the Erie Times News, but I didn't see it when I went to look. Diane does have something on her incredibly poorly laid out website.

For what it's worth, I figure that she will probably end up only helping out the event. Because everything to that sort of person seems to be a cause of consternation, they end up just coming across as naysayers and grumps. The pattern seems to be that she latches onto something, tries to get folks to write all sorts of angry letters and e-mails about it is perfectly innocuous, and then ends up publicizing it because she looks so rapidly unfair. Several years ago, there was a performance of La Cage Aux Folles at the Barrow Theater in Franklin that she regarded as just shy of being the Apocalypse. As it happens, the show ended up almost selling out because of all of the extra publicity she got it.

Whenever someone on our side of the fence seems like they are getting carried away with protesting over small stuff, or just being a needless drama queen, Diane is one of the examples of a point to of how inappropriately kicking up a fuss only hurts your cause.

As example, I am aware that there is some kind of prayer fest in Perry Square every summer. I am guessing that there are probably a few points that I might disagree with a fair number of the people they are, but I am not sure. However, it sounds innocuous, and more power to them for doing something that they enjoy and feel is meaningful. I would look like an absolute idiot if I went there shrieking and wailing. If the only time that people hear from you is when you are angry, I get the things that you're getting angry about aren't clearly a big deal, they will tune you out.
