Towards the end of when I was out, I bumped into a guy I have known for a few years now, who is going through a tough life change. We ended up going out to grab a bite of breakfast at an all night diner, and then he stopped over. Things were wonderfully and deliciously wild, not to mention complex. He and I chatted afterwards when I was dropping him back off his truck. It felt good to have been supportive, and also to be frolicsome.
Then it hit me: there is a long standing personal history for me that relationship and sex stuff tends to hit me around Good Friday. (I guess I should avoid crass jokes about the Second Coming, right?)
On a sort of related note, I find that I tend to think of Easter as the "in between" holiday. As a Pagan, we celebrate Ostara/the Spring Equinox (which happens around March 21 or so) and Beltane (about May 1, oddly enough close to my Mom's birthday) as the 2 spring holidays. (Or at least, that's how I tend to think of them.) So, since Easter falls in between, and since it is not a holiday that my religion observes, I think of it as "the thing that falls between."
Weird perspective, I guess.
How could you not celebrate a holiday that falls on the first Sunday after the first FULL MOON after the VERNAL EQUINOX? Add the fertility symbolism (eggs, chicks, bunnies) and it's as pagan a holiday as there is! ;)
