I took the day off yesterday to catch up on the domestic stuff I wasn't able to do on Sunday because of the boat cruise. I have also been meaning for sometime to slightly redesign the top menu on the Erie Gay News website. My ex had redesigned it shortly before he left, just as we were beginning the print edition, so it wasn't as clear at that time what was going to be used/needed and what was not going anywhere. (Okay, the latter comment also applies to the relationship as well. ;)
So I rolled up my sleeves, and did some of the minor changes. Since we are using a single template for most of the pages, I am trying to avoid having menus that are likely to need additional/changed options, since that means reapplying the template changes and uploading all of the files. (Not particle physics to do, and not time consuming, but sort of a pain in the butt.) Mike hadn't worked out how to do dynamic pages with the site, and I had figured that our since doing that, so we now have shorter menus up top, but more easily maintained pages. It felt good to get that out of the way. The next thing will likely be working on a photoblog for the Pride Weekend pictures, probably after the current month's print edition goes to bed.
James and I went back for the next dance lesson last night. Still need to work on style, but the instructor noted that we had the pattern pretty much down, and I think I am even mastering the turn. We started off with an exercise of just walking across the floor with each couple opposing the other member of the couple. This was to learn proper stance and just following leads. Later on, one woman remarked that it was sort of a challenge when she was effectively leading. I quipped "It's not easy being a top, is it?" James chuckled. Not sure if they got it.
When they had some open dance later, the instructors were doing a rhumba to a piece I recognized as a slower version of a song that's part of a Latin set frequently played at the Zone. It was slightly disorienting to hear it with the different tempo and without leading into the next part of the mix. This was followed by a Latin version of the gay anthem from the 70's, "I Will Survive." It was all I could do NOT to think of the performance scene with the Aborigines from "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."
We gave a try to the rhumba, which was sort of a dim memory from watching an instructional Latin dance tape a while ago. We remembered the few basic steps relatively okay, but we saw the instructors doing a fan move that I had always wanted to learn. Janet was very nice and showed us how to do it, and I think we basically got it. Again, no particular raised eyebrows or even much notice to the fact that we were two guys dancing together.
