So, today we went down to the October Boat Cruise put on by the Pittsburgh Tavern Guild for the GLBT community. Longtime community stalwart Donny of Donny's Place was one of the organizers and had been kind enough to take out a few ads, so the newsletter did well by going. ;) We had a nice brunch at the Village and I was mightily proud of myself for getting on the road slightly ahead of schedule.
Then we got to where the Prime Outlets Mall is at Grove City on the way down and encountered a traffic jam. I must admit to missing the gay shopping genes and have always sort of vaguely hated that mall anyway. There is just this soulless, dead quality that basically gets on my nerves. So, I was watching our comfortable lead being eaten up, and of course, arriving late for a cruise means nothing happens. (Unless one is capable of walking on water, and I am not in that league ;)
We also dealt with my poor sense of direction in Pittsburgh. I have said for many long years that if HP Lovecraft took LSD and then a course in remedial civil engineering, Pittsburgh is pretty much what you would end up with. Fortunately, James can read a map, and we stopped to asked directions at a local Hilton. Pleased to discover that we were actually in the right area.
The cruise itself was nice. Unlike July, when it seems like not many Erie folks were there, there was a sizable Erie and Slippery Rock/Menspace and allied folks who showed up. We danced a fair amount. Towards the beginning, they even had something that we could do a tango to, which seemed to get a few nice smiles guy who had done some very nice swing dance with his partner came up to us when taking a break and complimented us on dancing.
The slightly ancient and hackneyed "Fuck you, you fuckin' fuck" T-shirt got a few amused glances and remarks. I covered up by saying that I didn't feel like changing clothes after church. :) Actually, when my ex and I were in the Roadhouse Theatre production of Corpus Christi a few years ago, I had that shirt along, as well as another. We ended up wearing street clothes for the first part of the play, stripped down to underwear for the baptism scene, and then wore white shirts and tan pants. At one performance, Robin Cuneo, who is the religion editor for the Erie Times News and a simply nifty and compassionate person had Rev. Evon McJunkin, who was also a very upbeat and pleasant woman. I was chatting with them after the show and Mike went back to get a shirt, and evilly got that one, so I have worn that already while speaking with clergy. Oh well. They were very nice about the whole thing.
All in all, a good day. I am going to catch up on the usual Sunday chores and some more web site stuff on a vacation day on Monday.
Slightly tired and craving ice cream. TTFN!
