Bear in mind that i may be somewhat spacey from finishing the latest Erie Gay News last night and also hosting a friend who crashed on his way to an SCA event. Shortly about to nap.
So, another Saturday with some dancing. James and I went to the US Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association exposition at the Milllcreek Mall today. It seemed like a nice crowd, and we attempted to learn a few.
No one gave us a hard time. Local TV news anchor Lou Baxter was one of the presenters. Major cool points. When we were in the group being taught, he seamlessly shifted to saying "followers" and "leaders" rather than "gentlemen" and "ladies", not that we would have thrown a hissy fit. After the previous rant from the American Family Association about simply getting together to celebrate who we are, it was particularly nice to be included in way that felt comfortable. Lou definitely was a class act!
We also got back a photo taken when we went to the German Festival. Yup, James is wearing lederhosen on loan from the photographer. No fair thinking of Ren Hoek (of Ren and Stimpy fame) talking about wearing "unwashed lederhosen every day FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!" (which admittedly only works with Ren's silly/paranoid voice.
When we took the picture, they had only 1 male set of traditional German garb, so I am wearing a blouse backwards and the vest inside out to not look too femmy. I had to remove my shirt as the T-shirt showed through, so I joked with the photographer that "Hmm, so we're both going shirtless and we're dropping our pants in public. Typical Saturday for us!" (Okay, so James just wore the lederhosen over his shorts, but it sounded faintly wicked and fun.)
